This is a very nice resort. I have to say, sitting in the thermal pools in the rain with a cocktail from the swim-up bar is pretty nice! The resort has 1 normal pool which is next to the restaurant. There there are three thermal areas, The first is behind some cabanas next to the pool. It has a 2-tiered thermal pool. The top pool is very hot! Even the lower one is hotter than I prefer. There is a jacuzi pool behind some foliage that I didn't try. Then there is a thermal complex a short walk into the woods. There are 6 or 7 semi-private alcoves that fit 6 or 8 people each. The access to all of these is from a swim-up bar that is very inviting. The alcoves are actually slightly different temperatures. We found one that was on the cooler side that allowed us to feel comfortable for a hour or two. Towels are provided, but be sure not loose them or the tickets they give you to procure one or else you will owe the resort $20 each towel. The rooms are clean and have access to a little concrete patio area behind the room. The only odd thing was the door does not have a handle on the outside, so you could never fully close the door when out on the patio. That was annoying, but workable. The resort puts out food for birds, so there is EXCELLENT bird watching here. There is an open-air lounge next to the restaurant which is just an open structure with tables and chairs. It was nice to go there and play cards or watch the birds in our down-time. The breakfast is buffet style, with both Costa Rican and some US offerings. There was an omelet bar when I was there. Food was generally good and plentiful. We did not order lunches or dinners there, because the food was too expensive for us.

Tranquil and bursting with color, the Volcano Lodge was the perfect welcome for us in Costa Rica! We got rooms next to each other and were pleasantly surprised to see that each room had a private small heated pool in the back with a mini waterfall. What bliss! The walkways to the rooms were a step into the diverse Costa Rical flora and every turn was as exciting as the previous one. We relaxed in their thermal pools and sauna, which was the perfect relaxation after a long day. The breakfast was exceptional and we enjoyed trying local delicacies such as the traditional Costa Rican rice and beans, fried plantains, and fresh tropical fruit. It was lovely to observe the staff lay out bananas in a tree-like formation, for various birds to come and feed. What a unique experience! Overall, we are sure to come back and visit!

Compared to some of the more pricey properties in this area where we also stayed, this was a great option overall for a room with a private mineral hot tub. We loved the mineral hot tub in our large, mostly secluded back yard and this was the best feature to staying here. We took two couples massages in our brief stay here, one on check in, and one on check out the next day, and the spa and therapists here are a big plus, as they were some of the best massage therapists we have tried and the manager was very helpful and accommodating, too. The public mineral spa facilities which we did not use but saw when touring the property seemed great for those who did not have a private mineral spa as we did. The restaurant was relatively affordable and had many good options. Try the "green wine" from Portugal.

The private hotspring made the room and stay. They had complimentary snacks and wine which was cool. The landscaping was pretty and seeing the animals, various birds and iguanas was pleasing as well. We enjoyed the complimentary breakfast as well, buffet style with decent options to select from and a hot grill to make fresh omelets for you. They have the best watermelon juice I've ever had. Fresh fruit if you enjoy lighter breakfast. Wet bar provided. Showers give nice hot water.

Mark

The pools were excellent, not crowded when we were there and the water was a great temperature. The hot pools were great and we enjoyed spending time in them all. Breakfast was AWESOME - great selection of foods and the dining room area was so clean. I really liked how the staff kept everything so very clean, wiping everything down and mopping up water from the rain on the sidewalks, paths and restaurant floor. I was very impressed!
